Charlestown Regatta Week
Regatta week is run by a committee of volunteers and as well as providing a week of fun and entertainment for the village and its visitors the aim is to raise money for the benefit of Charlestown and its residents. This includes the purchase and ongoing maintenance of the children's equipment in the Regatta Playing Field, the provision of Christmas lights for the village and a traditional Christmas lunch for all of Charlestown's 'over-sixties' residents as well as donations to local good causes when funds permit.
Current plans are to complete the major improvements to the Regatta Field. This started in 2013 with improving the access and the installation of new black steel pedestrian and vehicular gates, complete with sparkling Cornish granite gateposts - all very much in keeping with the World Heritage Status of the village.
These works cost in the region of £20,000 as all alterations and materials used had to be approved by World Heritage as well as the usual planning authorities.
The second phase, started in 2014, is for the installation of new children's play equipment. The first of these, a colourful new slide, was provided in time for last summer and the existing swings were also totally refurbished. This year will see the installation of an enclosed area with play items on a cushioned base for the very little ones to enjoy safely. When funds permit, a third item of equipment will be added.
A good Regatta Week, thanks to our generous sponsors, much goodwill and lovely weather can generate a substantial profit but a couple of wet days can make a huge difference to what can be achieved. We hope 2015 will generate the funds necessary to complete the Regatta Field project.

We work hard during Regatta Week and would welcome some extra help. It's not all hard graft though, we also have a lot of fun!
